Tro is a Danish and Norwegian word. It carries the meaning of trust, faith and belief, the kind of trust that someone places in another person when something important is at stake. It is the word we choose to design with.
WHY TRO?
Most architecture in the sector describes the outcome: the home, the house, the accommodation. We chose to describe the relationship instead.
An injured client places a great deal of trust in the people around them: clinicians, case managers, solicitors, deputies, and the architectural team. Every design decision made finds its way into the daily life of the client. For example, how they get out of bed in the morning, how they move through their own house, how they wash, how they cook, how they welcome friends and family. The drawings that look like lines and simple geometry on CAD and BIM become the texture of someone’s day.
That trust extends outwards too; the technical knowledge behind each detail, to the quality of the relationships with solicitors, case managers and deputies, and to the level of communication across what can be a long and demanding process.
Tro names that responsibility and accepts it.
A Scandinavian Instinct
There is a second meaning in the word, one that suits the work and instructions. Tro comes from a tradition that treats the home as a place of refuge and calm, with buildings made for long winters and difficult seasons.
After a life-changing injury, a home has to do something similar. It has to hold a person through months and years. It has to feel like a private place, not a clinical one, and has to last, in materials and in spirit.
We design with that instinct in mind. Warm, considered, durable, and unmistakably someone’s home.
How the practice works
Tro Architecture is a focused practice rather than a large firm. We take on a considered number of projects so that each receives the attention it deserves. We listen first, draw second, and check our drawings against real life rather than against a template.
Our work runs from initial property suitability advice and feasibility studies, through full design and adaptation, to schedules of work and tender support. We collaborate openly with case managers, occupational therapists, solicitors and deputies, and we write and draw in a way that the client can follow.
